Introduction:
The College of Engineering has a number of scholarships available for students embarking on an MSc course in September 2014.
Eligible courses include:
  • MSc Aerospace Engineering
  • MSc Chemical Engineering
  • MSc Computer Modelling and Finite Element in Engineering Mechanics
  • MSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • MSc Electronics Technology for Sustainable Energy
  • MSc Materials Engineering
  • MSc Medical Radiation Physics
  • MSc Nanoscience to Nanotechnology
Candidate eligibility:
Scholarships are available only to new MSc/MRes applicants who are UK/EU categorized students.
Applicants will need to hold or be expecting to achieve a minimum of a 2.2 (or equivalent)
Studentship value:
Scholarships will cover the full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a £5,000 student living costs award (tax free).

Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Scholarships , 2014

There are many different funding opportunities for students studying the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) at Oxford. Funding covering fees and living costs is available for fourteen doctoral training programmes, eight of which are new in October 2014. Research Council and other funding opportunities are also available for doctoral programmes in these areas.

Humanities Scholarships , University of Oxford , 2014

The University has recently been awarded £14 million for postgraduate studentships in a range of arts and humanities disciplines by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). This AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership will provide funding for at least 200 doctoral students and a number of master’s students during 2014-19. It will add to the existing range of postgraduate scholarships in the humanities, including the Ertegun Scholarship Programme, which creates a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, cultures and generations, and the Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, for outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to make an impact in the fields of history, literature and languages.

Applications are invited for a Teaching Fellow in Quantitative Methods. This is a joint appointment between the Department of Sociology and the Department of Politics and International Studies.
This is one of eight new permanent posts that will join an existing team of quantitative social science scholars as part of the Warwick Q-Step Centre (see below). Whilst based jointly in Politics and International Studies and Sociology, you will be a member of a broader team within the new Warwick Q-Step Centre.
You will undertake teaching, administration and other teaching-related activities supporting the Warwick Q-Step undergraduate and postgraduate quantitative methods degrees in the Department of Politics and International Studies and the Department of Sociology.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding quantitative methods teacher. Teaching will concentrate on core and optional modules in quantitative methods including developing online teaching and learning materials for the shared quantitative modules. You will have an ability and willingness to teach applied quantitative research methods at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. An aptitude for applied quantitative social science research is essential.
JOB PURPOSE:
To undertake teaching, administration and other teaching-related activities supporting the Warwick Q-Step undergraduate and postgraduate quantitative methods degrees in the Department of Politics and International Studies and the Department of Sociology. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary group that’s committed to safeguarding the physiological and psychological needs of our military personnel, you’ll help to mitigate the detrimental effects of external stressors, including protective systems.. Our people encounter a number of environments on land, sea and air and it’s our responsibility to do everything in our power to look after their welfare to the best of our ability.
You'll provide evidence-based scientific advice to the MoD on the assessment, enhancement and sustainment of the physical performance of our people. Advising at all levesl across a broad range of studies, you’ll develop consultancy skills to share both your expertise and our work to academic and industry partners, as well as carry out training and clinical trials as needed. And if you prove yourself, this could be a role that will take you to the next stage of your career as a Senior / Principal Technical Consultant.
About the requirements
At the very least you’ll have a high class degree in physiology or related science. Beyond that we’ll expect you to have worked as an Applied Physiologist (dealing with human physiology) and to be someone who can provide realistic, holistic solutions to a variety of cases. You will need to be able to apply your knowledge to a military environment and have plenty of experience of conducting human volunteer trials, carrying out design and statistical analysis and having practical evidence of supporting ethical considerations of human experimentation. The ability to convey sensitive and complex information will be critical, as will excellent report writing skills.

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law at the University of Bristol is committed to a substantial expansion of its capacity in quantitative social sciences and is launching an international search for five members of academic staff.  
The Professor and Reader/Senior Lecturer posts are in any field of social sciences and on appointment will be placed in the most appropriate School of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law according to the appointee’s expertise and experience. These posts will be attached to the Centre for Multilevel Modelling. We are seeking internationally outstanding applicants with strong leadership and collaborative experience, an extensive track record of high quality, large-scale grant-funded research, and highly-ranked scholarly publications. We are particularly looking for candidates with expertise in multilevel modelling or other advanced quantitative methods development used in the social sciences such as structural equation modelling, Bayesian modelling or spatial modelling. Both posts will be involved in teaching and supervision especially as part of the Advanced Quantitative Methods Pathway of the South West Doctoral Training Centre.
The three Senior Lecturer/Lecturer posts are to support Bristol’s new Q-Step centre, one of fifteen such centres funded across the UK by the Nuffield Foundation, ESRC and HEFCE, with a remit to promote a step-change in the quality of quantitative methods teaching and learning for undergraduate social science students (see http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/q-step). Under this initiative we are seeking to appoint three new academic staff, two in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies (SPAIS), and one in the School for Policy Studies (SPS). A pre-requisite for any applicant is a passion for using quantitative data to explore and answer research questions in the social sciences, and the ability to nurture a similar excitement in undergraduate and postgraduate students. Applicants can have research interests in any area relevant to the Schools’ existing research programmes.
All appointees will join the newly formed Collaborative Network for Quantitative Social Science at Bristol within which they will be encouraged to pursue cross-disciplinary research projects. We would also be interested in applications from researchers who wish to conduct innovative social science research using the world leading Bristol birth cohort study Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), known popularly as "Children of the 90s”.
