The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (Hamburgisches WeltWirtschaftsInstitut, HWWI) is an independent consulting and research institution which analyzes economic and socioeconomic trends relevant to economic policy. The HWWI is especially committed to the greater Hamburg region and North Germany. It therefore seeks to identify global trends and economic developments and to analyze their regional consequences.

The HWWI draws on its own basic research and methodological expertise to provide practice-related consulting services. The HWWI's clients include corporations, associations, government ministries, the EU Commission, foundations, and institutions which provide research funding. The Institute further contributes to education in the field of economics and promotes qualifications for young researchers.

The HWWI focuses on the following areas: economic trends and global markets, regional economics and urban development, sectoral change, institutions and institutional change, energy and raw material markets, climate and environment, demography, migration and integration, labour and family economics, health and sports economics, family owned business, real estate and asset markets.

The HWWI is a private, non-profit, limited liability company and does not receive public funding. Associates of the Institute are, in equal shares, the University of Hamburg and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The Institute also maintains a cooperation agreement with the University of Hamburg, the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) and the Hamburg Institute of Family Owned Business (HIF).

The HWWI is seeking a
DIRECTOR (MANAGING DIRECTOR)

to assume responsibilities in September 2014. We aim to accommodate suitable applicants with regard to individual constraints. The HWWI is run by two directors (managing directors). Responsibilities include overseeing the Institute's academic and business activities and promoting its further development, promoting quality assurance in research and consulting services, publicly representing the Institute and its research findings, establishing fund-raising strategy, networking nationally and internationally, and promoting the qualifications of young researchers.

Applicants should have outstanding credentials in the field of economics, such as a Habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications, and should have published in relevant journals. Applicants should further demonstrate an enterprising spirit, leadership skills, and the desire and ability to represent the HWWI and its research findings in the public sphere and before its clients.
