The Department for International Development is looking for leading scientists, academics and researchers to join us as Senior Research Fellows. It’s an opportunity to contribute to key areas of our work, while continuing research and publication activities in your current organisation that complement your role at DFID.

The role of Senior Research Fellow
We are looking for specialists in four key areas:

- Energy & Innovation
- Education
- Institutions and Governance
- Data and Informatics.
Whatever your specialist field, you will contribute to our efforts to enhance the relevance of our research and maximise its impact on development policy and practice. You will provide scientific leadership by identifying new research opportunities, framing challenging research questions and horizon scanning to pinpoint research opportunities and emerging issues. You will also shape research ideas by engaging with research communities globally.
You will not necessarily be expected to undertake original research at DFID. We want you to advise on specific research programmes, author summaries of the state of knowledge in key areas and actively engage with the wider academic community, to ensure the highest quality and relevance of research.
These positions will be for periods of between six months and two years on a part-time basis. If you are successful, you will be appointed on secondment and expected to retain your existing institutional affiliation. You will take up your appointment between January and June 2014.
Requirements
To join us, you must be a recognised authority in one of the four areas mentioned above. You should have a track record of research, published in peer-reviewed publications, preferably with a focus on developing countries. Whether you’re from the academic or private sector, we’ll expect you to be a senior leader in your current organisation, equivalent to a Professional Reader or Senior Lecturer. Thanks to this background, you’ll be able to draw on a broad range of scientific knowledge rather than very detailed areas of research or grant proposals.
