INTRODUCTION


The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an international organization dedicated to green growth. Headquartered in Seoul, it is a new, hybrid international organization – interdisciplinary, multistakeholder and driven by the priorities of emerging and developing economies – established by an initial group of eighteen governments pursuant to a treaty signed at the United Nations Rio+20 Conference in June 2012.
 
GGGI is dedicated to helping governments and industry pioneer and diffuse a new model of economic growth, green growth, that integrates ambitions for strong economic and environmental performance to achieve poverty reduction, job creation and social inclusion, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation, addressing biodiversity loss and resource security. GGGI’s approach is particularly suited to developing countries as we believe growth is an essential ingredient in economic and human development.


GGGI’s theory of change leads it to focus on three major outcomes: (1) adoption and implementation of rigorous green growth plans based on strong analytics that form the core of national and local economic development strategies; (2) knowledge development which builds a strong empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; and (3) public-private cooperation that enable the scaling of green growth investment in key industry sectors as well as the engagement of companies in the implementation of national and subnational green growth plans.
  

GGGI’S KDM (Knowledge Development & Management) DIVISON

GGGI’s KDM program is focused on the economic aspects of green growth with the greatest need for additional research as perceived by senior economic policymakers (e.g. macro-modelling, sectoral approaches, resource-efficiency, technological innovation, employment and poverty reduction). In order to deliver relevant, high-quality green growth research, GGGI will leverage the strengths of leading global research institutes and centres. At the same time, GGGI will develop strong in-house expertise on the topics of green growth planning tools and methodology and lessons from in-country green growth planning experience. GGGI will also help create an international research infrastructure, such as the Green Growth Knowledge Platform, in order to strengthen collaboration and intellectual exchange among researchers and practitioners.

One of the key functions of KDM division is to support and interact with other work streams such as GGP&I and PPC and external stakeholders through collecting, processing, managing, and sharing the knowledge related to green growth.

  

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the Deputy Director of the Knowledge Development and Management (KDM) Division, the Knowledge Platforms Manager and Senior Advisor will be responsible for creating and managing knowledge sharing platforms, communities, and other mechanisms across GGGI’s programs of work, and in coordination with external partners. The objective is to build a robust approach to internal and external knowledge networking, especially via on-line platforms and thematic “communities of practice”. The role will oversee initiatives being jointly-led by GGGI (with other partners), such as the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP):

•   Building a suitable platform for storing and accesses this knowledge. The platform should enable easy continuous development and updating of best practices, as well as the sharing and dissemination of knowledge within GGGI, and between GGGI and the broader community of practitioners.  This platform will be established in coordination with the GGKP.  This role will also directly oversee GGGI’s involvement in the GGKP, and ensure that joint effort is fully aligned with GGGI’s own needs and priorities.

•   Enabling and supporting internal Communities of Practice around key knowledge areas, in close coordination with GGGI’s country teams.  This will involve helping these communities structure their knowledge sharing and content creation activities, linking them to external communities of practice, and providing advice and feedback to their activities.

•  Establishing and driving effective spaces and processes for learning across teams - online and in-person, ad-hoc and planned. This should ensure that (i) staff actively leverage existing knowledge assets from both within and without GGGI, (ii) staff actively engage the necessary experts to inform their project work; (iii) staff working in similar areas of expertise exchange knowledge and experience.

•   Supporting the identification and structuring of relevant green growth content from GGGI’s KDM, GGP&I and PPC, including the incorporation of work conducted by the Green Growth Best Practices Initiative.

•   Supporting effective mechanisms for knowledge asset creation. These should ensure that (i) lessons from all GGGI projects are reflected in the repository in a timely and useful way and (ii) GGGI project staff are enabled and encouraged to continuously grow and improve the repository content in a systematic fashion.  This will be done in coordination with GGGI’s internal knowledge manager.

•   Advising the Knowledge Development and Management Division on questions about strategic positioning vis-à-vis knowledge sharing platforms such as: LEDS, GGKP, GGBP, Climate-Smart Planning and others the GGGI may get involved in in the future.


CORE COMPETENCIES

Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely.

•     Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and handle complex multi-stakeholder relationship to achieve organizational goals. Ability to work effectively with teams that have a high degree of cultural and professional diversity.

•          Accountability: Ability to take ownership of responsibilities, honour commitments and to deliver outputs within prescribed time, cost and quality standards.

Experience:

o    Experience with, and an excellent understanding of a broad range of knowledge sharing mechanisms - online and offline, for planned and ad-hoc sharing and their effectiveness for various purposes internally within GGGI and externally to GGGI’s stakeholders and the green growth sector (for example online knowledge sharing platforms, internal communications, topical conferences etc.).  Familiarity with open-source software platforms, including wiki-based systems, preferred.

o    Experience designing and implementing effective streamlined knowledge sharing processes and mechanisms that drive and facilitate accumulation, learning and dissemination of knowledge across an organization with significant cultural diversity and geographical expanse.

o    General understanding of a green growth development paradigm, key frameworks and players including broad familiarity with current approaches to green growth in major countries and latest academic thinking on the subject, including the approach of GGGI and that of its key stakeholders

o    A proven track record with a highly regarded private sector company (consulting or industry), international organization, government or not-for-profit organisation.

 
RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in the disciplines related to green growth and/or other relevant fields on knowledge management and networking.

Work Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in knowledge management and networking.

Language Requirements: Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of another relevant language is an asset.
